UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A fire broke out Thursday afternoon in an apartment building on Park Avenue, sending plumes of smoke into the neighborhood and prompting a large emergency response. The fire was reported just after 4 p.m. in a first-floor apartment at 969 Park Ave., a 12-story building near East 82nd Street. It took 78 firefighters less than an hour to get the fire under control, which they achieved at 4:54 p.m., an FDNY spokesperson said. No injuries were reported. Videos from the scene showed a train of emergency vehicles stretching down Park Avenue and smoke shooting out of the first-floor apartment. Thursday's incident came two days after a fatal apartment fire on East 78th Street, which left a 94-year-old woman dead and two others hurt, including an infant. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
