Description

Looking for an energetic farmer who can help operate a certified organic farm (CCOF) and run a CSA, while enjoying fresh fruit and vegetables from the farm. The more farming experience you have the better. Check out the farm at Templetonvalleyfarms.com, or come by for a visit. The position is open now. The work changes seasonally, but now we have a lot of harvesting and preparing crops for market as well as soil preparation and planting. We are looking for a committed, full time, long term farmer. We would prefer someone who wants to help continue to grow the farm and become involved long term. The Farm operates all year and there is plenty of work in the winter. General tasks involved: 1. Planting, weeding, irrigating and harvest of specialty crops 2.Plan and implement harvest and planting schedules 3.Participate in the inspection, sorting, packaging, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops 4. Set up, operate, and repair irrigation equipment 5.Harvest crops by hand, plant seeds, or transplant seedlings by hand 6.Maintain and record information about crops, such as fertilizer use, yields, or costs for CCOF records 7.Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, and harvest crops 8.Prune fruit trees and brambles, and maintain fruit orchard. We need someone who can operate the CSA for about 60 members, and operate the farm stand which is open to the public for retail sales and you pick berries. The farm has an egg production business and honey production as well. You do not need to be proficient in all aspects of the farm on day one, but need to be willing to learn and progress to the point of being able to run the farm. Some formal education in agriculture would be great. Temporary short term housing available on the farm, if you need to locate from out of the area.
