Alaska Works Partnership, Inc. is a local non-profit providing FREE, HANDS-ON training opportunities that are designed to provide participants with an experiential understanding of a career in the construction trades and enhance participants' abilities to gain employment within the construction industry.
Carpentry 1 Training is a 40-hour introductory training covering the basics of carpentry and trades math. Participants learn accurate reading and use of a tape measure, 3-4-5 layout method, and safe use of hand and power tools. Using skills learned in class, participants build a foot stool and a set of stairs to a platform. Construction site education, safety, and carpenter expectations are also covered.
