Description

Press release from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department: 03/18/2021 This morning Correctional Health Services (CHS) began providing Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines to Maricopa County inmates age 55 and over who would like to receive the vaccine. CHS received 400 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine from the Public Health Department earlier this week for our incarcerated population. Currently, there are 318 inmates in our jail facilities who are 55 and over. These facilities include Lower Buckeye Jail, Towers Jail, Watkins Jail, 4th Ave Jail, and Estrella Jail. During this vaccination program, MCSO is providing logistical and officer support to the CHS deployment plan and their personnel to aid them in implementing a safe and efficient process for everyone involved. Other county jails in the State are undertaking a similar process. "Providing the Covid-19 vaccine to our incarcerated population is yet another step to help keep our inmates, staff and medical personnel safe and healthy," said Sheriff Penzone. "We are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel and are appreciative for the partnership with CHS and Public Health as we continue working towards restarting jail programs, expanding resources, and turning the page on this pandemic."
