After a year of lock down, my thinking and approach to life has become uptight. I’m looking to give up the funk. I’m looking to start (or join) a Portland Park based Funk Jam Band in the true playing heritage of Parliment Funkadellic. I don’t want to play Parliament covers. I want to groove! I want to goof! I want to worship in the church of funkology and follow the commandments to get off my ass and jam. I want everyone to be soloing, vibing off each other, enjoying each other, expressing themselves simultaneously playing off the unifying love of THE ONE. I want to play in disjointed synchronicity with THE ONE. Tight rhythms, loose standards, freedom at its finest. If you want to know exactly where we are going to end up when we start a groove, if you fuss over a note played differently from one bar to the next even tho it follows THE ONE, then I don’t want to play with you, Sir Nose. That thinking is too European. I was raised by wolves and have no tradition. Free your mind. Give up the funk and groove! I play the trumpet, and a synth.
