Description

Chuck is a 4-year-old male Shepsky (German Shepherd – Husky mix). He is healthy, smart, handsome, neutered, chipped, up-to-date on all shots, nails-just-clipped, obedient, affectionate, non-drooling, very quiet, house-trained (no sitting on furniture for this boy) and potty-trained. He loves to run and hop; his reindeer-prancing thing is adorable and hilarious. He is devoted to his people and he respects and gets along with our territorial cat with whom he’d love to interact and play, but the cat wants nothing to do with him - so Chuck keeps his distance. He seems to enjoy getting to know other dogs to play, but we’ve always kept him on a leash when around other dogs. He also is easily startled by sudden noises and movements (gets scared but not aggressive, never bites, rarely barks). We think he has separation anxiety. When his favorite family members leave he sometimes searches for them and whines and howls. He is trained to use a crate but he becomes agitated when we have to leave him alone. We think all this may go back to his street life before being rescued by Tehama County Animal Services last summer. He was obviously well-domesticated previously, but he may have been traumatized after losing his owners and being left homeless after one the NorCal fires. He’s been our family dog for the past six months and we love him to pieces, but we’ve come to the tough decision that we are not the home he needs. We are your normal, noisy, fast-moving family with not as much time, and room to run and roam, that this strong, active, loving dog needs. But we believe that with the right caregiver(s) who knows how to patiently and consistently work with these issues, they will become a thing of the past. We are asking for a small rehoming fee because we want to be certain he goes to a safe place where his new family is devoted to his well-being. He comes with all of his stuff: crate, bed (he loves his bed), toys, leash, food, etc.
