Description
UXBRIDGE, MA — A southern Worcester County coronavirus vaccine hub will open on Monday, serving a dozen towns between Blackstone and Oxford, according to the Milford Board of Health.
The regional clinic was first announced Thursday by state officials. The site will be smaller than mass vaccine sites at the Natick Mall and Gillette Stadium, with enough capacity to give out about 750 vaccines per day.
As of Wednesday, only a few groups were eligible for vaccines, including people over 65, educators, and people with two or more special medical conditions, like cancer, asthma and diabetes. Gov. Charlie Baker is expected to announce Wednesday morning the schedule for all remaining groups in the state.
Massachusetts expects to receive 170,000 doses of the vaccine this week, a small bump from the 155,000 Massachusetts it had been receiving.
The site will serve residents in Uxbridge, Northbridge, Mendon, Douglas, Bellingham, Blackstone, Hopedale, Millville, Milford, Oxford, Upton and Sutton, according to the state.
