HICKSVILLE, NY — A 67-year-old Long Island teacher who taught at the Infinity Institute in Jersey City sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl who was his student, according to a news release from the Hudson County Prosecutor's office in New Jersey. Apparao Sunkara, of Hicksville, was arrested at his home on Tuesday at about 4 p.m. on charges of second-degree sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez's office said Wednesday. The girl, who is now 12, reported the assaults took place at the school in 2019, Suarez's office said. Suarez credited her office's Special Victims Unit investigators and the Nassau County Police Department for the investigation and arrest. Sunkara is being held on the charges in Nassau County, according to Suarez's office.
