2 MD Counties In COVID Yellow Zone: White House Task Force

MARYLAND — While Maryland is out of the "red zone" — based on new coronavirus cases and positivity rates — the state is second in the nation when it comes to COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals, according to the latest White House Coronavirus Task Force report. Topping the list of jurisdictions with confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patient admissions per 100 hospital beds is the District of Columbia. Next is Maryland, followed by Pennsylvania, Georgia and Virginia. The data was released March 16 and is current through March 12, according to the report. Courtesy of the White House COVID-19 Task Force report. Maryland has 805 hospitalized coronavirus patients as of Wednesday, March 17, according to the Maryland Department of Health. Maryland Out Of 'Red Zone' No Maryland jurisdictions are in the "red zone" for coronavirus outbreak severity, according to the White House report. Areas in red zones have more than 100 new cases per 100,000 residents and positivity rates above 10 percent. Maryland also has no jurisdictions in the "orange zone," reporting 51 and 100 new cases per 100,000 and positivity between 8 and 10 percent. 2 Counties In 'Yellow Zone' Harford and Charles counties are the only Maryland jurisdictions in the "yellow zone," according to the report. Yellow zone counties have reported between 10 and 50 new cases per 100,000 residents and a diagnostic test positivity result between 5 and 7.9 percent. Harford County has a new case rate of 16.55 per 100,000 residents and Charles County has a case rate of 17.68 per 100,000 as of Wednesday, state health officials say. The statewide case rate as of Wednesday is 14.34 per 100,000 people, according to the Maryland Department of Health. Harford County's positivity rate is 5.7 percent, state health officials reported Wednesday, while Charles County has a 5.92 percent. The statewide positivity rate is 3.96 percent.
