LT's Robotics Team 23880E Baby Drivers recently won the 24-team Great Lakes #7 VRC Vex Robotics Competition Tournament, and for the first time in LT Robotics history, received the coveted Excellence Award. The team competed in a Live Remote Tournament with back-to-back robotics challenges. Students drive robots they design, build, and program using an integrated system of motors, wheels, metal, and sensors. The competition is played on a 12x12 field with one red and one blue team. The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing team by scoring balls in goals and connecting rows of goals, similar to tic-tac-toe.The Excellence Award is presented to the team that exemplifies overall excellence in building a high-quality robotics program. The team is also a strong contender in numerous award categories. Winning Baby Drive team members include: Brendan Hall - senior Kevin Rife - senior Mason Ownby - senior Daxton Garon - freshman Teams consist of 3-6 students and each student has a different role. The two main roles are builder and coder. The builders construct the actual robot and troubleshoot any mechanical problems that might happen. The coders create custom actions for the robot to do in order to score points with speed and accuracy. Students have been building their robots and coding them since last April when the new competition was released.
