JOLIET, IL — A 40-year-old Joliet man was shot twice Wednesday afternoon as he sat in his car in the parking lot of the Conway's Barber Shop in Lockport Township. The man later collapsed while driving through Joliet trying to get to the hospital, authorities said Wednesday night. The Will County Sheriff's Office said the wounded man tried to drive himself to the hospital, but he began to pass out on Joliet's east side near the intersection of Ohio and Scott Streets. The man's car came to a rest on Ohio Street. There were two bullet holes through his drive's side window. Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey said the shooting victim was taken by fire station ambulance 1 to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center. Blaskey said it was his understanding the victim was in fair condition at St. Joe's. Wednesday night's news release from the Will County Sheriff's Office indicated the victim did not know who shot him in the barber shop parking lot. The business is along South State Street in Lockport Township. The 40-year-old man underwent surgery at the Joliet hospital, and the sheriff's office said "he is expected to make a recovery from his injuries." Joliet resident Bob Hernandez broke the news of Wednesday's shooting, producing one of his Facebook Live videos from the crime scene. Hernandez informed his Facebook followers that someone "was shot in his car pulled over in front of strip mall and started screaming for help according to a witness." Before 3 p.m., a Will County Sheriff's deputy was helping the Joliet Police Department block traffic at the corner of Ohio and Scott Streets, where the shooting victim was found.
