Culver City Crossroads
March 15, 2021
This week's Art-Past-Present interview, as always co-hosted by Farrah Karapetian, features multimedia artist, curator and writer artist Chelle Barbour. In her signature collages with references to Afro-Futurism and the African Diaspora she presents black women with agency and complexity, countering a centuries-old tradition of stereotyping in art and visual culture. Her fascinating work has been featured in the Wende Museum's exhibition "The Medea Insurrection," and is now on view in "Transformations: Living Room -> Flea Market -> Museum -> Art." We will speak with Barbour about the role of history and time in her work.
Wednesday, March 17, 12 p.m. PST: interview with Chelle Barbour
