CHARLOTTE, NC — A drive-through, free coronavirus vaccination event is scheduled Thursday, March 18 at Second Calvary Baptist Church, Atrium Health said. The event will take place from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at 114 Nelson Avenue in Charlotte. No appointment is needed to participate in the event, organizers said. Those eligible to receive a vaccine include anyone between 16 and 64 years of age with higher risk medical conditions, people living in a close group living setting, those ages 65 and up, healthcare workers and frontline essential workers. "Wait times might be long," Atrium Health said. "On-site staff will let cars know when all vaccines have been given out. This might be before the 2:30 p.m. closing time if there are a large number of people already in line." Second doses of vaccine will be administered at the church location on Thursday, April 15, from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Last week, Gov. Roy Cooper announced that the state was expediting vaccination eligibility for medically vulnerable residents, who will now become eligible under state public health guidelines Wednesday, March 17. Those eligible under the expedited timeline include those with medical conditions that put them at higher-risk with COVID-19, as well as those living in congregate living facilities at increased risk of exposure. There is no requirement of proof of the medical condition, Cooper said. "We're going to rely on people's good judgement and their knowledge of their own medical condition," he said. Additional members of Group 4 will be added April 7, Cooper said.
