We are expecting a busy summer and are hiring additional team members. We have several different positions available. All have two components, part field and part office, shop, or shuttle driving. About Us: San Juan Huts is a family business that was established in 1987. The huts started as backcountry ski huts. We now operate 16 huts throughout southwest Colorado and southeastern Utah. We have a great team of good people and better dogs. We are hard workers but enjoy a casual working environment. About the work: You would be working in a fun atmosphere with outdoorsy people but spending most of your time in the office, shop, or driving or cleaning huts. A variety of work keeps things interesting. About You: If you are a good match, you will be a team player, enjoy talking with customers, be detail oriented, and a problem solver. You will have experience in backcountry skiing, biking, and hiking. Clean driving record and able to pass drug test is a must. Need to live within 35 miles of Ridgway. Oh and you probably will be happier if you like dogs. Starting Pay $16 to $18 an hour depending on experience If you are interested, please email resume and professional references. Job Descriptions 1) Reservations / Hut Manager 30 to 45 hours per week. Year round with two months off (unpaid) between November and April. Exact dates off must be coordinated with other office staff. Must be a good multi tasker who will work most days taking reservations and making sure the office runs smoothly with intermittent field days cleaning, resupplying, and maintaining remote backcountry huts. Must ride either San Juan Huts Durango to Moab Mountain Bike Route or Telluride to Moab Mountain Bike route early in the 2020 summer depending on route availability. Responsibilities include: Reservations and Customer Service Role Answering client questions about mountain bike, backcountry ski, and hiking trips and huts via phone and email. Taking payment and scheduling clients. Helping clients during unexpected events while they are on route. This can include ordering bike parts, shuttles, and evacuations; helping lost clients; etc. Required Skills: Good communication skills, excellent attention to detail, able to multitask. Solid computer skills. Knowledge of how to travel in remote areas by bike, ski, and foot. Hut Manager Role - Able to work solo in remote locations, as well as have a good attitude and be fun to work with. Self-sufficiency and smart 4x4 driving capabilities are a must as many work locations are quite remote. An average work day can include EARLY mornings LATE evenings, heavy lifting, and lots of driving as well as some overnights. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Drive or hike to remote huts; resupply & clean huts / bathrooms; safely drive on muddy 4x4 roads in company vehicle; basic maintenance and repair of huts; interact with and help clients. Construction skills a bonus. Be able to ski into and service remote huts in the winter on your own. Social Media Role Help create content for social media. Required Skills: be active, or been active in the past, on Instagram. Basic photo and video editing and an eye for good shots. 2) Shop Help / Hut Manager Employment type: 30 to 45 hours a week June through September. Training would start in May. This position would be split between shorter days in the shop and longer days in the field. Must ride either San Juan Huts Durango to Moab Mountain Bike Route or Telluride to Moab Mountain Bike route early in the 2020 summer depending on route availability. Responsibilities include: Shop Help Role - Pick up or purchase food and other necessary items, pack coolers, fill water jugs, laundry, and general cleaning and organizing. Help load and unload trucks. Hut Manager Role - Able to work solo in remote locations, as well as have a good attitude and be fun to work with. Self-sufficiency and smart 4x4 driving capabilities are a must as many work locations are quite remote. An average work day can include EARLY mornings LATE evenings, heavy lifting, and lots of driving as well as some overnights. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Drive or hike to remote huts; resupply & clean huts / bathrooms; safely drive on muddy 4x4 roads in company vehicle; maintenance and repair of huts; interact with and help clients. 3) Shuttle Driver / Hut Manager Employment type: 30 to 45 hours a week June through September. Training would start in May. This position would be split between shorter days driving shuttles and longer days in the field. Must hike the Sneffels Traverse 4 hut / 5 day route early in the 2020 summer depending on route availability if you have not already done so. Responsibilities include: Shuttle Driver - Must be punctual to early morning work, be comfortable driving 4x4 roads in a variety of weather and conditions, enjoy talking with clients. Must hike the Sneffels Traverse hike early in the 2021 summer season. Hut Manager - Able to work solo in remote locations, as well as have a good attitude and be fun to work with. Self-sufficiency and smart 4x4 driving capabilities are a must as many work locations are quite remote. An average work day can include EARLY mornings LATE evenings, heavy lifting, and lots of driving as well as some overnights. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Drive or hike to remote huts; resupply & clean huts / bathrooms; safely drive on muddy 4x4 roads in company vehicle; maintenance and repair of huts; new construction projects; interact with and help clients.
