Description

SHARON, MA — The Town of Sharon has received the 2019 Water Fluoridation Quality Award from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for its efforts to ensure oral health among residents. A total of 1,523 public water systems in 29 states received the 2019 award and Sharon is one of 76 recipients in Massachusetts. "This award recognizes your investment in ensuring that every resident of your community receives the benefit of good oral health," said the Massachusetts Department of Public Health in a letter to the Town of Sharon. "The Massachusetts Department of Public Health strongly supports community water fluoridation as a safe, cost-effective, and proven practice that promotes good oral health within our communities." Every year, each community reports the fluoride level in its water system to the Office of Oral Health. Awards are then presented to those who adjust the fluoride concentration in their water, achieve an optimal fluoride level for 12 consecutive months, and document their fluoride levels in CDC's Water Fluoridation Reporting System.
