SALEM, MA — North Shore fire crews spent the weekend battling brush fires amid very dry and windy conditions. Residents are urged not to burn until conditions change as the higher spring sun angle and lack of rain combine to make it a dangerous time for fire spread in the pre-growing season. After Salem Firefighters Local 172 said it provided mutual aid twice to Marblehead on Saturday, crews from both Salem and Peabody battled a brush fire that on either side of the city borders on Amanda Way on Sunday. Beverly fire also said residents should refrain from burning after battling a brush blaze that they said threatened to get out of hand and put a home in jeopardy. Those with a season burn permit must still call Beverly fire on the day of burning to make sure it is safe to do so. The National Weather Service issued the red-flag warning on Friday — alerting that any fire may spread rapidly with no snowpack late in the winter. SALEM fire Crews are currently working brush fires in the areas behind Amanda Way. Peabody Fire also has its crews working the same areas on their side of the woods this morning.Posted by Salem Ma Firefighters Local 172 on Monday, March 15, 2021
