Easter Bunnies- Not Okay!!

Description
Every year many people purchase bunnies as Easter gifts for their kids. This may seem like a cute or fun thing to do but it is very problematic. If your child is begging you for a bunny, there are some thing you need to know before you make the decision to buy them one for Easter or at any time. Please remember: Rabbits are LIVING ANIMALS not toys. They require a substantial amount of work and money. The initial cost of a rabbit may be cheap, but the long term cost is not. Rabbits need to be spayed or neutered for their health, and to prevent behavioral problems. This can cost anywhere from $150 -$1000. Their dietary needs alone are expensive, and they need toys and other types of enrichment. Rabbits may be small but they require a large area to live in. Bunnies need a minimum space of 4 feet by 4 feet. Contrary to popular opinion bunnies should NOT live in cages!! They are very high energy animals and should not be confined to a small space. Rabbits are social animals, so they need to have a bunny friend. Of course both bunnies have to be spayed/neutered before they can be bonded so they do not injure each other in hormonal fights. Rabbits are wonderful animals that deserve proper care. Their care is high maintenance, and they have to be treated delicately and with patience. They do not make good pets for children. please do your research before buying a bunny for Easter or at any other time. Did you know that about 80% of "Easter Bunnies" are abandoned shortly after Easter. Most of them end up in shelters, on the streets, or are given to people to use as food! Often the more responsible choice is to give your child a stuffed bunny instead of a live one for Easter. If they are disappointed, explain all the responsibilities, work, and money that goes along with owning and caring for a rabbit. I own multiple rabbits myself and know just how cute and lovable they can be, as well as how much work they are!! I would be very happy to answer questions/ give advice about rabbits care to anyone wanting to know more, so feel free to email me for more information.
