Description
NATICK, MA — A new anti-racist youth group in Natick has released its picks for Select Board and School Committees in the 2021 town election. RISE (racial justice, inclusivity, social justice, and equity) is backing Guimel DeCarvalho for Select Board and Shai Fuxman and Catherine Brunell for School Committee.
The endorsements come after RISE held two candidate forums last week. You can rewatch the Select Board forum here and the School Committee forum here.
Here's more from a RISE press release:
R.I.S.E. Natick is proud to endorse Guimel DeCarvalho for Natick Select Board, Catherine Brunell for Natick School Committee, and Dr. Shai Fuxman for Natick School Committee. While all five candidates running in the two contested town elections provided meaningful input on anti-racism, R.I.S.E. Natick found the three candidates we are endorsing to be better prepared to lead with an equity focus accompanied by the awareness of the systems and structures that disenfranchise people of color in our community. R.I.S.E. Natick looks forward to continuing conversations about anti-racism with all five of these candidates.
This past week, R.I.S.E. Natick hosted two anti-racism forums for the contested town elections happening this month. On March 10, the new youth coalition was joined by candidates for Natick Select Board, Guimel DeCarvalho and Paul Joseph. On March 11, the coalition was joined by candidates for Natick School Committee: Matt Brand, Catherine Brunell, and Dr. Shai Fuxman. Candidates were asked questions pertaining to the intersection of anti-racism and their roles as town officials should they be elected to their respective positions.
