MEDFORD, MA — Two Medford residents were involved in a six-car crash on Route 1 that left a Peabody couple with potentially life-threatening injuries Monday. State police said the driver of a tractor-trailer, owned by Velez Brothers Trucking of Danvers, hit a sedan the couple was in at about 2 p.m. Monday on Route 1 northbound, south of the Route 60 rotary. The collision set off a chain-reaction crash that involved a Honda sedan driven by a 32-year-old Medford man, with a 31-year-old Medford man riding passenger; an SUV driven by a 48-year-old Danvers man; a Subaru Outback driven by a 43-year-old Newburyport man; and a Nissan sedan driven by a 39-year-old Danvers man. The crash the closure of Route 1 in both directions for about two hours. The Peabody couple was trapped in their vehicle and Revere firefighters pulled them out, police said. The 44-year-old woman and 49-year-old man were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. A 59-year-old Kingston, New Hampshire, man was driving the tractor-trailer, police said. The Medford residents, Newburyport man and the Danvers driver of the Nissan sustained minor injuries. Police said an investigation will determine whether charges will be filed.
