ACTON, MA — Acton fire crews rescued a teenage boy and his dog from icy waters on Friday. The 14-year-old boy and his dog had fallen through the ice at a pond near 54 School St. The pond, which is approximately 100 yards behind Acton Fire Station 2, is about 6 to 8 feet deep and the two were found hanging onto a broken piece of ice, according to fire officials. Fire officials believe the two were in the water for about five minutes. Two rescue crew members donning ice water rescue suits were able to rescue the boy and his dog, and bring them safely back to shore. The patients were evaluated by EMS at the scene and safely reunited with their family. Residents are reminded to always use caution when venturing out onto the ice.
