LONG ISLAND, NY — Several Long Island neighborhoods made Niche.com's 2021 survey of the best places to raise a family. According to the rankings, nine local areas were listed among the top 100 places for families across the United States. Three Long Island places made the top 10. Great Neck Gardens came in at No. 4 while Jericho came in at No. 5 and Syosset came in at No. 6. All the local areas to make the list are in Nassau County. These are all the Long Island neighborhoods to make the national list and their rankings: Great Neck Gardens (4)Jericho (5)Syosset (6)Kensington (17)Manhasset Hills (23)East Hills (40)East Williston (54)Great Neck Estates (74)Great Neck Plaza (80) In statewide rankings, about half of the towns in the top 100 are on Long Island. Check out that list. The rankings were based on public schools, crime rates, cost of living and family-friendly amenities. Data from the U.S. Census, FBI, Bureau of Labor Statistics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was also factored in.
