EAST HARLEM, NY — The fatal shooting of a man in East Harlem on Monday led to a police chase along the East Side of Manhattan and into Midtown, the NYPD said.
Around 10:20 p.m. Monday, police responded to a 911 call about shots fired near East 118th Street and First Avenue.
Officers found an adult man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.
Meanwhile, a silver BMW identified as a "vehicle of interest" fled the scene and drove south along the FDR Drive, according to police. Officers followed the car until it reached East 53rd Street, when a man leapt out onto the street, police said.
The 33-year-old man was taken into custody, while the car fled along 53rd Street. Police also recovered one firearm at the scene of the shooting and another while the car fled into Midtown.
An investigation is ongoing, police said.
