Description
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — On Saturday, vandals spray-painted the marquee sign at Glenwood Middle School that had said "Black Lives Matter," covering up the word Black. The incident currently is under investigation by the Howard County Police Department as a hate crime. Once the act of vandalism was discovered, the paint was cleaned off and the sign restored to its original state.
The Howard County Board of Education and Howard County Public School System Superintendent Dr. Michael Martirano "unequivocally condemn this vandalism and the racism underlying it."
"We believe the lives of our Black and Brown students and staff should not be diminished and devalued in this way. We reiterate our support for the fact that Black lives matter," the school district stated.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Howard County Police Department at 410-313-2200.
