NEW HAVEN, CT — A North Carolina man has been sentenced to 4 years in prison for drug and gun crimes in New Haven, according to a statement from prosecutors. Jimmie Williamson, aka "James Land," 38, of Durham, NC will also serve three years of supervised release. According to prosecutors, on Feb. 22, 2019, New Haven Police responded to a report of a suspected gunshot in the vicinity of Winchester Avenue and found Williamson behaving erratically outside of a home. Police searched a car parked in the driveway and found a loaded Glock 9mm pistol, 69 pills containing methamphetamine, and a quantity of packaged marijuana. Williamson was arrested, and forensic analysis of the gun found Williamson's DNA, prosecutors said. Williamson's criminal history includes felony convictions in North Carolina state court for drug and firearm offenses, and a 2005 federal conviction in the Middle District of North Carolina for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Williamson pleaded guilty in February 2020 to one count of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
