ELMWOOD PARK, NJ — Over $30,000 has been raised for the family of Mario Andres Uran Gaviria, a 41-year-old Elmwood Park man who died in a motorcycle accident March 9. Gaviria suffered severe head trauma when his motorcycle struck the back tire of a semi-truck on Route 17 in Rochelle Park. He was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, but didn't survive. A GoFundMe page has been set up to cover funeral expenses, and provide a few months of support to his family. Over 200 donors have contributed a total of $31,216 to date. Maria Lopez, of Elmwood Park, created the fundraiser, and said Gaviria "was a loving father and husband." He is survived by three sons and his wife. "He had a heart of gold and would lighten up any room with his awesome personality. His devotion to his work, his family & his friends was felt by everyone. He was extremely loved and will be missed tremendously," said Lopez. Lopez is seeking to raise $50,000. The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office is still looking for the maroon or red semi-trailer truck involved in the accident.
