County Reports 198 New COVID-19 Cases, 8 Deaths, As North County Vaccination Site Set To Open

By Editor, Times of San Diego March 15, 2021 San Diego County's Health and Human Services Agency reported 198 new cases of coronavirus Sunday and eight deaths from the disease. Out of 10,349 test results received in the past day, 2% were positive, and the 14-day rolling average of positive tests ticked up to 3%. Hospitalizations for COVID-19 increased by just one for the second-straight day, to 297, with 95 patients requiring intensive care. In mid-January as the pandemic's recent surge peaked, there were nearly 1,800 hospitalized and over 400 being treated in local ICU's. The county on Sunday reported three community outbreaks, to bring the total to 15 in the last seven days that were connected to 55 cases. As of Sunday, 709,220 residents, or 26.4% of the local population, have received at least one vaccine dose, with 430,376, or 16%, fully vaccinated. The county currently has 25,642 doses available to administer. Meanwhile, officials plan a new vaccination center in Oceanside that will administer more than 700 daily shots Sunday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It's set to open Tuesday, according to county Supervisor Jim Desmond.
