Press release from the City of Wilkes-Barre: Posted on: March 15, 2021 - 10:21am Wilkes-Barre City Mayor Brown's Statement Related to the American Rescue Plan Act Being Signed Into LawPosted on: March 15, 2021 - 10:21am "I was extremely pleased to learn that the American Rescue Plan Act was officially signed into law on March 11th by President Biden. I have been informed that the City of Wilkes-Barre could be eligible to receive up to $38.8 Million under the Plan. Like most government entities in Pennsylvania, the pandemic had (and continues to have) a devastating financial effect on the City. I am optimistic these fiscal relief funds will be vital to the economic recovery of our City. My plan now is to do a thorough review of the act with members of my senior staff to determine exactly what are eligible uses for these funds. I realize this last year has been a trying time for our residents and it is my intention to use these funds to achieve the greatest possible benefit for all residents of the City of Wilkes-Barre. Finally, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Senator Bob Casey and Congressman Matt Cartwright. Thanks to their tireless efforts during this whole process, the City is in a much better position to deal with the devastating financial impact caused by the virus." -George C.
