More School District Of Philadelphia To Open Next Week

PHILADELPHIA — More schools in the School District of Philadelphia are planning to welcome back some students next week, and the district is opening up the hybrid learning model to more families. PreK through second-grade students in 35 more schools will begin returning to school buildings for in-person learning on Monday, March 22. School staff supporting these students will return to schools on Wednesday. A full list of the schools reopening is featured below. This is the third set of schools announced since the district and Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT) agreed on a process allowing the PFT to individually review plans for all schools and start bringing students and staff back for in-person instruction. The agreement was reached following a mediation process led by a city-appointed third party. The district hopes to have return dates for all remaining PreK to second-grade hybrid learning students announced by March 22. Additionally, the district has also informed PreK through second grade families who initially chose the 100 percent digital learning model last fall that they will have the opportunity to opt into hybrid learning by completing the Learning Model Selection Survey. The selection window will open tomorrow, Tuesday and close on March 23. Families who chose hybrid learning will be contacted by their child's school between March 24 and March 26 regarding next steps and will be scheduled to start hybrid learning the week of April 5. Students whose families do not complete the survey will remain in 100 percent digital learning. As always, families choosing the hybrid learning for their child can return to 100 percent digital learning at any time. Students participating in hybrid learning will attend school in person two days per week and engage in digital learning three days each week, based on an assigned schedule designed to safely limit the number of students in schools and help maintain social distancing in all school spaces throughout the day.
