Brush Fire Extinguished In Newtown, Wrightstown Townships

NEWTOWN, PA — Windy and dry conditions are believed to have fueled a brush fire that broke out near Swamp Road along the border of Newtown and Wrightstown townships Sunday afternoon. Firefighters responded to the area of 400 Swamp Road, near the Sundown Boarding Stables, to a large brush fire that was spreading and threatening horses in nearby stables, according to Emergency Alerts of Delaware, Bucks and Montgomery Counties. Police closed a portion of Swamp Road between Twining Bridge and Worthington Mill roads through 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Evacuation orders were placed for Tyler State Park and several surrounding homes as windy conditions persisted throughout the day. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Newtown and Wrightstown fire departments. The blaze came during a Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service, which means that critical fire weather conditions are expected due to a combination of strong winds, low humidity and dry fuels.
