Description

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — Santa Clara County is setting aside about 100 COVID-19 vaccination appointments a day this week for Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority employees, according to KRON. Transit workers became eligible to receive the vaccine on Monday in the county. As eligibility for vaccinations expands to larger sectors of the population, transit workers in the region have pushed to be prioritized because they have been working on the frontlines throughout the pandemic. "I feel like it's Christmas in March," said Glenn Hendricks, VTA's board chair, in a news release. "Protecting VTA workers through vaccination adds one more layer of protection for our customers, employees, and their families and loved ones." The VTA has also been offering free rides around Santa Clara County to COVID-19 vaccination sites. It is currently not collecting fares and mandating rear-door boarding in order to reduce customer-operator interactions. Visit sccfreevax.org for more information on vaccinations.
