GLENDALE, CA — A woman who set out to hike a Southern California trail last week was found dead on Sunday. Her family reported her missing on March 8, launching a weeklong search. Glendale resident Narineh Avakian, 37, was found near Mount Waterman Trail, according to the Glendale Police Department. Police did not find evidence of "foul play" in a preliminary investigation. Police have not yet released information on Avakian's cause of death or the nature in which she was found. Narineh's family told police that she left her home on March 7 at noon to go on a day-long hiking drip, but she didn't say where she was going, Glendale officials said. According to her family, Narineh often went hiking by herself, especially lately. Several days later, police found her vehicle parked at the Buckhorn Day Use Area along Angeles Crest Highway. After finding her vehicle, officials launched a large search and rescue operation. Rescue crews worked to find her as 12 inches of snow fell overnight. Due to the intense weather, the search ended at 2 a.m. Officials are continuing to investigate this matter.
