DAVIDSON, NC — The American Rescue Plan, or COVID-19 relief bill, will deliver nearly $9 billion to North Carolina, with more than $41 million to Lake Norman area towns for lost revenue, protect frontline workers and maintain public services. The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 is a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus package, which was proposed by President Joe Biden to speed up the United States' recovery from the economic and health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing recession. These funds can be used to replace lost revenue, maintain public services like firefighters and police, and protect frontline workers. Here's the breakdown of direct relief by cities: Charlotte: $148.94 million Concord: $16.96 million Gastonia: $16.37 million Kannapolis: $9.76 million Salisbury: $7.16 million Here's the breakdown of direct relief going to Lake Norman towns: Town of Cornelius — $8.85 million Town of Davidson — $3.82 million Town of Huntersville — $17 million Town of Mooresville — $11.45 million Here's how much Charlotte Metro counties will receive: Mecklenburg County — $215.35 million Iredell County — $35.26 million Union County — $46.52 million Gaston County — $43.55 million Lincoln County — $16.70 million Catawba County — $30.94 million Rowan County — $27.56 million Cabarrus County — $41.98 million The North Carolina League of Municipalities applauded the congressional approval of the American Rescue Plan, saying the move would offer direct assistance to many North Carolina communities who have suffered financially during the pandemic, including towns and cities that saw tax and utility payments plummet. "Cities and towns play a key role as builders of infrastructure, and those investments ripple throughout local economies," NCLM said in a statement. "The direct assistance offered in the American Rescue Plan will go a long way in allowing North Carolina municipalities to continue in that role and make investments that promote recovery, job growth and uplift local businesses and residents."
