Our meetings are for both beginning / first time attendees and for those who have worked with Mr. Gurdjieff's teachings for years. Mr. Gurdjieff's teachings and their application in daily life are for those interested in understanding the aim and purpose of existence and the possibility of our own development through Work on oneself. In other words, we know, perhaps without understanding why we know it, that we long for something beyond ourselves. "I had come to the conclusion a long time ago that there was no escape from the labyrinth of contradictions in which we live except by an entirely new road, unlike anything hitherto known or used by us. But where this new or forgotten road began I was unable to say. I already knew then as an undoubted fact that beyond the thin film of false reality there existed another reality from which, for some reason, something separated us." Mr. Gurdjieff's student P.D. Ouspensky in 1914 page 10 from "In Search of the Miraculous." Mr. Gurdjieff taught that we have enormous yet undeveloped potential and that we live in consensus reality largely unaware of this potential or even at odds with the development of our potential. The key to becoming whole is Self-knowledge. True Self-knowledge is possible through Impartiality in this Moment, the direct experience and total acceptance of what I am. Impartiality and its partner Objectivity can be developed by the method that Mr. Gurdjieff left us, called Work on oneself. The Gurdjieff Tucson Group exists to foster this method and help anyone with a sincere desire to Wake Up. Our group was started by Willem Nyland who was with Mr. Gurdjieff for 25 years from 1924 until Mr. Gurdjieff's death in 1949. Mr. Nyland was a founding member of the Gurdjieff Foundation and taught Mr. Gurdjieff's method for 25 years until his death at age 85 in 1975. For 20 years, from 1954 - 1975, Mr. Nyland recorded over 2600 of his lectures / meetings which cover all aspects of Mr. Gurdjieff's teachings, esoteric knowledge, and Inner Development and the practical application. Ours is a Work group discussing the practical application of Mr. Gurdjieff's method in our daily lives.
