Kells Beer Co. In Natick To Close Downtown Location

NATICK, MA — The Kells Beer Company's downtown Natick taproom will close its doors this summer, the owners said in a social media post on Monday. The Kells taproom along Summer Street will shutter on June 30. Kells closed its taproom at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, and has not reopened it due to safety concerns. The brewery has been selling to-go beer, and did operate an outdoor seating area during warmer weather. Owner Tom Wilber said Monday the closure doesn't mean the end of Kells. He and co-founder Fred Kelly are on the hunt for a new home. The brewery is also continuing apace — Kells will release a beer this week brewed to support an ALS charity. "We are looking at all options and have been," he said via Wilbur. Kells grew out of the former Barleycorn's Craft Brew pub when brewers Wilber and Kelly took over the space in 2017. Last May, Wilber told Patch the pandemic shutdowns were "devastating" for the business, although he and Kelly tried to find new ways to sell Kells beer.
