Description

HINGHAM, MA — Elementary students at Hingham Public Schools are set to return to full day, in-person learning Monday as part of a plan approved by the school committee on March 8. The plan states that students in grades 1-5 may return to regular classes with their originally assigned teachers and remote-only instruction will remain available for families who do not yet feel comfortable with in-person learning. Families will be required to choose whether they will commit to in-person classes or remote learning and will not be able to switch back and forth, as the former hybrid learning model has been eradicated for elementary grades. Students who attend in-person classes will be required to wear masks and maintain three feet of distance in the classroom and six feet during lunch. Those who continue to learn remotely will be assigned a new public school teacher for each grade and will virtually join their current classrooms for at least 20 minutes each day. The district said it will not hesitate to return to remote instruction if in-school transmissions and quarantines begin to increase in the upcoming weeks.
