FRAMINGHAM, MA — From pizza to an annual fundraiser for a rare form of childhood cancer, Framingham brewer Jack's Abby kept up its charitable efforts during an especially difficult year. The brewery on Monday released a report on charitable activities in 2020, showing that Jack's either raised or donated close to $90,000 during the pandemic year. "We will not forget who we are. This brewery is part of a community. No matter how challenging the year was for us, one of our core missions is to be both supportive and involved in our local community — and COVID doesn't change that," co-owner Jack Hendler said in a statement. Some highlights from the report include: $30,000 in pizza given away during the first wave of the pandemic between March and May.Over $21,000 raised through virtual 5K events, including the first Spirit of Downtown Virtual 5k Run/Walk.Over $10,000 in donations given away throughout the year. The brewer's annual WhyNotDevin fundraiser netted $6,500 alone. When Jack's employee Ellie McDonald founded a nonprofit to give care packages to breast cancer survivors, the brewer donated proceeds from the sale of its Red Tape beer. The brewery counted about $28,000 in in-kind donations.
