HAMDEN, CT — Firefighters responded to multiple brush fires over the weekend, including one that started from a fire pit and spread to the home's garage, according to officials. Officials said the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has the Forest Fire Danger Level listed as "High." "The recent high winds and dry weather have led to dangerous fire conditions," Hamden Fire Marshal Brian Dolan wrote in a news release. "If you have received a permit from your local Open Burning Official to burn brush on your property, the permit is not valid if the Forest Fire Danger is rated high, very high or extreme. Residents are also asked to refrain from using outdoor fire pits when conditions reach these dangerous levels. The Hamden Fire Department responded to a couple of brush fires over the weekend. "One was the result of a fire spreading from a fire pit to the dry grass and eventually traveling to the base of the home's garage." Dolan advised anyone who spots a brush fire to "remain calm, go to the nearest telephone and dial 911 to report the fire as quickly as possible to your local fire department." "Calmly tell the emergency dispatcher when you saw it and where you saw it," Dolan said. "Stay on the telephone until the dispatcher tells you to hang up."
