Officers from the West Des Moines Police Department in collaboration with the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB), will be conducting high visibility traffic enforcement on St. Patrick's Day, Wednesday, March 17th, 2021. This project is conducted in an effort to reduce traffic and pedestrian related injuries/deaths on Iowa roadways. This sTEP (special Traffic Enforcement Program) event will consist of heightened enforcement for all traffic violations with the main focus on seatbelt usage and those who choose to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This increased enforcement is intended to serve as a reminder for all drivers to obey traffic laws and do their part in keeping Iowa roadways safe.
The safety of the community, roadways and all residents remain the top priority of the West Des Moines Police Department. A number of options are available for those including alcohol in their celebrations. Designated drivers, local taxis services, and other forms of ride share programs can be a smart and safe alternative rather than driving yourself. The West Des Moines Police Department wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable St. Patrick's Day!
