Description

Networking now for band startup. Launch/rehearsals for real when everyone has their Covid 19 shots. At this point it looks like late spring for getting together with players and working out the songs one by one. I play guitar and write. Good stuff in the works; I'm writing short form straight to the point rock, other rock, bluesy psychedelia inspired noisy prog rock, pop rock, rocky rock, edgy dissonant off the wall rock, psychedelic bluesy groovy stoner pop. Material is always in development and I get ideas regularly. I write every day. I’m shooting for catchy, cool, distinct and very tight, not hackneyed, not amateur, not corporate or predictable or overly derivative and out of date. Like the headline and second paragraph says, it's going to be rock type stuff, generally, but not super hard rock or metal. I intend to keep stage and rehearsal volumes reasonable. Thus, no Broadway Theater style or Bel Canto vocal styles. It's the wrong idiom for rock type music. If your singing style is overloaded with vibrato, every note or every other note it won't fit well. What's needed here?? Pro level technical ability. Pitch accuracy and timing have to be spot on. There's some latitude expected in Rock music where pitch is concerned, like stretching for a note until the fundamental note is achieved. However, singers drifting off key and having chronic pitch instability problems are issues that I will not be dealing with. Make sure you can sing on key and stay in key. Good ears and good brains, creative--you can work out your interpretation of new songs from scratch and you can figure out what works and what doesn't work. It's better to have a slightly crazy or borderline unconventional approach than just mouthing notes with words (and ceaseless, endless, unnecessary vibrato) attached to them. Once again, Broadway Theater style, heavy vibrato, is the wrong idiom for what I'm writing. Be versatile and creative with musical depth and able to jump in and work on just about anything/everything that comes along. The last point is key. If you're into just one genre or idiom and can't gt past your direct musical influences it's not going to pan out here. If you play an instrument and want it to be in the mix your playing has to be on a pro level. End of story. If you are looking towards being a full time pro (write record tour repeat) I think I can get us there. Within six months I believe we'll be getting attention and hopefully revenue. I do have a plan laid out on how to proceed and get to that level, so be able, available and willing to make the switch to full time pro if and when the situation arises. If you are tied to a career that you can't say goodbye to, or too afraid of taking that leap, or your significant other is not on board with your music career, well, this is not your scene. This is not a hobby band type project, one or two gigs a month for fun. Once rehearsals and work up sessions start you're going to need about 10 hours per week for prep at home plus rehearsal time most likely in Midtown Manhattan, 2 times a week but maybe 3 times at the outset. I like to keep rehearsals short, about 2 hours, and very focused when working out new material. At some point the rehearsal schedule would be reduced, or, increased when new material needs to be worked out, or, rehearsing a new live set. Be available for steady gigging, that's what sells records, and the records sell the gigs. The upshot here is: It's a lot of work at times. Sorry. Success in this business isn't served on a silver platter. There will be stretches of time with little to do and you can sleep til noon lol. Send a singing sample or a link to a sample. Include your contact information.
