View our full event calendar. Full Calendar Weekly Programs Virtual Storytime Enjoy virtual storytimes featuring popular childrens' books and activities to grow your child's vocabulary. Follow us on Facebook and catch our live storytimes every Monday (pre-recorded), Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Hip Hop Storytime Join us on Facebook Live for a 30 minute interactive session that includes storytime, rapping/call and response, and hip hop dance/movement. This fun and engaging session is targeted to youth ages 3 to 5 years old, but the entire family is encouraged to participate every Friday at 10:30 a.m. Learn more about Sensory Storytime and Baby Storytime Dial-A-Story Call to hear children's stories read in English and Spanish. Dial-A-Tale Every three days, we upload a new reading in which a passage from essays, short stories, excerpts and poetry are read by library staff. Call (916) 575-4590. English Conversation Groups Practice Speaking English in a friendly and informal online group setting using Zoom. Speak with both native English speakers and other English learners, led by a trained facilitator. We'll discuss a variety of topics, ranging from everyday life to local things to do and more. Virtual Teen Programming Join us for weekly teen programs every Friday at 4 p.m. .First Friday – Virtual Teen Space Join us for fun games, crafts, and art projects. We use supplies that you already have at home, and it's BYOS: bring your own snacks. Held via Zoom and Instagram @saclib. Participants must email [email protected] to receive Zoom information. (Please use a personal, non-school account.) Second Friday – Tween Comic Book Club We'll discuss what we think is rad about this book, host a short trivia game and ask you for your questions, before and art activity inspired by the comic book. Copies of all books are available to check out through Hoopla! All events take place on Facebook Live. Third Friday – No Book Required Book Club What content is getting you through quarantine? Join us and chat about whatever you are watching/ listening to/ reading/ creating/ thinking/ eating. No book required! Fourth Friday – Teen Anime Trivia Learn new and interesting facts about anime, discover our online manga collection and test your trivia knowledge. All events take place on Facebook Live and Instagram Live. Health & Wellness Virtual Zumba Join us for a 6-week virtual Zumba® series on selected Mondays at 5:30 p.m., led by local Zumba® instructor, Molly Giger. Zumba® takes the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Body Positive Yoga Join us Saturdays at 10 a.m. for a virtual 6-week body positive yoga series, led by local yoga instructor, Kirsten Johnson. Explore the connection of mind, body, and breath in a safe, body positive environment that is inclusive for all abilities and body types. Monthly programs Virtual Book Clubs BYOB Book Club Join us on the last Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. for a themed virtual book club. Get ready to share what books you're loving and get some new ideas to add to you must-read list. This virtual book club will meet on Zoom. Grownups Unite! Looking to join a *new* book club that reads comics and graphic novels for adults? Join us on Zoom the third Wednesday each month at 6 p.m. Quarantainment Book Club The Adult Book Group invites you the first Saturday of each month at 11 a.m. Travel to a different time and place through the pages of a good book. We will meet on Zoom. Library AF Book Club Enjoy monthly book club discussions for young adult readers (and those young at heart), including lively pop-culture banter and enjoyable, non-traditional topics. This virtual book club will meet on Zoom on the second and last Saturday of each month at 11 a.m. Forever Young Book Club The last Saturday will be the Forever Young Adult Book Club, under the umbrella of Library AF. Between the Covers: A Romance Book Club Join us on Zoom to discuss a delightfully diverse collection of romance novels on the second Saturday of the month at 1 p.m. We'll also be discussing what romance novels are making you happy while staying safe at home. Genealogy Join us for free monthly genealogy lectures on a variety of topics that will help you with your family history research on Saturdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Presented by knowledgeable and qualified speakers, topics include census and vital records, newspaper research, important genealogy websites and DNA testing, to name a few. Meet with the CVSO Join us for a monthly drop-in virtual chat with County Veteran Services Officer (CVSO), Rochelle Arnold. Find out more about benefit entitlement determinations, claim development, claim filing, and case management services. Open to veterans and family members and dependents of veterans. We'll hold this program from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. See our program calendar for the next event. More Upcoming Events Dunbar Dyson Beck: Renaissance Master of Poverty Ridge (March 23) The Preservation Chair of the Sacramento Art Deco Society, Bruce Marwick, will be telling the remarkable story of Dunbar Dyson Beck (1902-1986), a painter, WPA muralist, and creative force in Sacramento from the 1940s to the 1980s. Beck graduated from Yale University and won the prestigious American Academy Prix to Rome competition, allowing him to study in Europe. In the 1930s, Eleanor McClatchy (1895-1980) recognized Beck's talents and enticed him to the West Coast to live and work. McClatchy became Beck's most important patron.
