RIVERSIDE, IL — A man arrested by Riverside police on a DUI charge Saturday told officers he attended a late Christmas party and thought he was in Chicago, police said. About 9 p.m., the man, identified as 38-year-old Gregory J. Reese of Chicago, was found slumped over the steering wheel in the parking lot at Riverside Brookfield High School, according to a police news release. The car was locked and the windows were up. According to the news release, an officer repeatedly banged on the window to awaken the driver. Once Reese woke up, the officer instructed him to put the car in park, which he did. The officer conducted the standard field sobriety tests, which Reese failed, police said. While being taken to the police station, Reese said he was attending a Christmas party that had been delayed because of the pandemic, according to the release. He said he was trying to get to his Chicago home. Reese had been going in the opposite direction of his home and believed that he was in Chicago when the officer came by, police said. Reese was charged with DUI and several traffic-related offenses. He was arrested on a DUI charge in 2008 in Chicago, police said.
