GRAYSLAKE, IL — The Grayslake Village Board is expected to vote this week on whether to approve a special use permit for the installation of a solar power system at a bank in town. The Chase Bank, 975 E. Belvidere Road, has applied for the permit to put in the roof-mounted solar power system. Village ordinance requires a special use permit for the installation on non-residential properties, according to village documents. The Grayslake Village Board is expected to vote on the permit during its Tuesday evening meeting. If approved, the project would be the 74th solar installation in town. Grayslake has made an effort to increase the use of solar energy in the village. Last month, the village received recognition from SolMart for its efforts. The village recently received a bronze designation from SolSmart for its work to create an online permitting checklist, which was meant to increase the transparency for community members and solar installers; and reviewing local zoning codes and identifying restrictions that intentionally or unintentionally prohibit solar PV development, according to the SolSmart website Grayslake Gets Nod For Solar Power Efforts Also up for vote on Tuesday is a special use permit for a green fleet and logistic center on Route 83 near the Recycle America facility. The facility will allow for natural gas fueling and will allow for the conversion of the company fleet from standard fuels to compressed natural gas. The project will also include a 41,000-square-foot office building. The village board will meet starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
