Elmhurst Officials Want Plan To Get Federal Cash

ELMHURST, IL — Five Elmhurst aldermen say they want a plan in place so that the city can access money from the federal government's $1.9 trillion stimulus package. At Monday's City Council meeting, the aldermen are asking for the issue to be referred to two City Council committees to draft the plan. According to a city memo, the plan could include creating an intergovernmental working group dedicated to getting students back to school safely and as quickly as possible, starting a business assistance program, and creating a vaccination program that removes barriers for seniors and other vulnerable residents. The aldermen behind the proposal are Mark Mulliner, Noel Talluto, Mike Honquest, Jim Kennedy and Mike Brennan. "It is critical to have a plan and move quickly to ensure Elmhurst gets the federal funds necessary to address the lingering and long-term challenges our community faces due to the pandemic," Mulliner said in a news release issued by his mayoral campaign. "That's why I'm proposing the referral to committee at Monday's City Council meeting." Mulliner is running against fellow aldermen Michael Bram and Scott Levin in the April 6 election.
