ELGIN, IL — A 3-month-old Elgin boy's death last week was declared a homicide Saturday by the Cook County medical examiner's office. Malik Davis died Friday at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago after he was taken there for treatment several days earlier, Elgin police said. Malik died from blunt-force trauma to his head, which he suffered March 8, the medical examiner's office said Saturday. Malik was first taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin before being transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital, police said. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating Malik's death, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. DCFS workers have previously made contact with the family, the report states.
