Description
Greetings. Allow me to unburden myself. I decided last year to quit my old job and pursue a lifelong dream of making and producing my own music. For lack of a better term, let's call my musical leanings "progressive metal/rock" although even that may be an oversimplification. I have been writing and composing my first batch of songs for the last 6 months or so. Quite frankly, it's been very difficult to sift through my influences and craft a song from front to back that sounds wholly original. Call it self-doubt, perfectionism, or what have you. Needless to say, I want to meld minds with other talented musicians in the Metro Detroit area, interested in creating and performing heavy but emotional music. I want our music to convey emotion. I don't just want to chug (I do have an 8-String though). I want to write "songs", each with their own purpose and identity. I love messing with polyrhythms and angular riffs, but I'm equally in love with lush atmospherics and electronic pop sensibilities. Yeah, pretty prog right? I am moving to the Metro Detroit area in June. Michigan seems to be lousy with Classic Rock cover bands, but not too many interested in making original, modern music. I am primarily a guitarist now, but I was a drummer first for 10 years, so my strength is crafting gnarly, syncopated riffs. I almost envision the melodies being dictated by lush synth pads, keys, and ethereal guitar leads, more than the usual, "noodly" lead guitar stuff. But I'm open to collaboration and compromise if it results in something special that we can all be proud of. Here are a few influences on my current songwriting: VOLA, The Contortionist (2014-present), Leprous, Devin Townsend, Porcupine Tree, Haken, Ulver, Advection Stride, Tool, Meshuggah, Cynic, Hypno5e, Sleep Token, Peter Gabriel, Seal (yup), Rush, and The Ocean. I know that was a lot, but perhaps that will give you a sample of what is clanging around in my brain. I pro gear, transportation, and a flexible schedule. Any instrument is welcome. I am aiming to train myself as a frontman/guitarist but, I am "seeking"... - Keyboardist - Second Guitarist - Drummer - Bassist - Vocalist At the end of the day, I am almost desperate to find equally hungry and ambitious musicians to make terrific music and perform it (once we can). Let's make it heavy and evocative! Race and gender aren't important. I prefer people between 23-35, simply because we'll have a better chance of sharing the same creative headspace and motivation. Contact me and tell me what you're thinking! Let's bring Prog to the mitten! Cheers!
