DANVILLE, CA — A Danville police officer was placed on administrative leave after firing his gun at a transient man who was hurling rocks at cars on Thursday, officials said. The man reportedly pulled a knife on the officer, who brandished his gun in response, according to the Contra Costa Sheriff's Department. Officer Andrew Hall — who is assigned to the city of Danville and has been an officer for nearly eight years — was placed on paid leave per department policy. Tyrell Wilson, a 32-year-old transient, remains in critical condition at a hospital, officials said Saturday. Wilson was reportedly staying in the area of the Danville Sycamore Valley Park & Ride along Sycamore Valley Road. The investigation is being handled by the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff and the county's district attorney's office. No other details were immediately available.
