Description

BOSTON — Police arrested a Dorchester man they said almost ran over several officers during a Friday night traffic stop on Washington Street. Eugene Parrish, 24, was initially pulled over as part of an investigation when police realized he did not have a valid driver's license. Officers said his passenger, a 16-year-old from Dorchester, appeared to have a gun bulging from under his sweatshirt. Police said when they tried to remove Parrish from the car, he drove backward toward officers. He struck a cruiser, then sped away on the sidewalk before crashing into another vehicle and a street sign on Waterlow Street, police said. Police said Parrish was arrested after a violent struggle in which he hit the officers. Police later found the passenger, who had escaped, but they did not find any weapon. He was released to a guardian. Parrish will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on four counts of assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle after revocation or suspension, driving to endanger, negligent operation and malicious destruction of property.
