A lantern-lit walking tour where historical spirits share their stories of courage and conviction. April 9-10 at New Bern Battlefield Park. The New Bern Historical Society introduces an exciting new storytelling event at the hallowed ground of New Bern Battlefield Park, site of the 1862 Battle of New Bern. The tour takes you on a guided lantern-lit walk through the wooded battlefield trails, where spirits from New Bern's Civil War past will tell you their moving stories of courage and conviction. You will meet a proud Medal of Honor winner . . . a plucky lady spy . . . an immigrant devoted to his new country . . . escaped slaves who fled to New Bern, the mecca of freedom . . . and more! While awaiting your tour, enjoy a look at military camp life by reenactors from the 26th NC Infantry. End your evening with inspiring songs and more great stories in the tent. Choose your date, then choose your arrival time. Tickets are only good for that date and time. Total event time approximately 90 minutes. For everyone's safety, face masks must be worn and social distancing will be followed.This event is not recommended for children under 7 years old or those with mobility concerns.No strollers or wheelchairs allowed as wooded terrain is uneven with mulch and gravel paths. Sturdy closed-toe walking shoes recommended.There are no seats along the trails; attendees must be able to stand for up to one hour.No pets allowed at this event.This event is non-refundable.For questions, visit www.NewBernHistorical.org or call 252-638-8558.Rain Policy: Event will proceed in light/intermittent rain or drizzle. In the event of heavy rain or stormy conditions, your tour will automatically be shifted to the following weekend on the same day of the week and same arrival time. Example: if your reservation is Friday, April 9 at 6:00pm, in case of heavy rain it will be moved to Friday, April 16 at 6:00pm. We will post any inclement weather change on our website and Facebook page at 3:00pm on event day. Student price valid for children and for students under 23 with student ID.
