Socially-Distant Book Signing w/ Nikki Mayeux Join us Saturday, March 27th from 2 pm – 3:30 pm in front our shop for a socially-distant sidewalk signing! Nikki Mayeux will be signing her book, Ordinary Time! Masks required. Ordinary Time is a reverent observation of the finite, and of queerness, parenthood, and humanity in a culture saturated by religion and its contradictions. The title alludes to the period in orthodox Christianity’s liturgical calendar outside of the major holiday seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter. The collection celebrates the poet’s and illustrator’s own “ordinary time,” exploring the sacredness of the temporal, the tangible, and the mundane, as well as reckons with the Biblical stories and religious dogma they both left behind. Nikki Mayeux is a queer ex-Evangelical writer and educator from the strangest city in the Deep South, New Orleans. She completed her MFA in Creative Writing at the University of New Orleans and works in special education advocacy. She also performs public storytelling and produces SANCTUARY, a performance series uplifting stories of religious trauma and deconstruction. Her work has been featured in Infection House, Dinner Bell, Room 220, Aurora, Allegory Ridge, and elsewhere. Ordinary Time is her first chapbook.
