Description
I purchased a solar system for my home 11 years ago. My out of pocket cost for the system was $14,000. My average annual electricity cost was $2,800 per month. The zeroing out point for my solar was 5 years. 5 years x 2800 = 14,000. For the last 6 years I have essentially had free electricity. My highest annual bill since installing solar was less than $200. Some years, PG&E has owed me a few bucks. My electricity will continue to be free for the duration of the life of my solar system.
Thus far, my solar system has saved me $16,800 over the last 6 years (since my system paid for itself) and will continue to pay off for the next decade.
Solar system + electric vehicles = 0 gasoline costs per month.
Once solar is installed, you price for electricity is fixed. If electricity prices climb, and the always do, your cost has been essentially fixed at the cost of your system.
Leaving transportation/electric vehicles out of the equation, solar power is an economic no brainer for almost every home.
